CALGARY- A man accused of stabbing his mother and a younger person she was caring for has been found guilty of first-degree murder.

A jury returned the verdict yesterday in the case of Emanuel Kahsai, who was charged in the October 2015 deaths of 54-year-old Selmawit Alem and a 25-year-old woman, Julie Tran.

The verdict carries an automatic life sentence and nine of the 12 jurors have recommended Kahsai serve consecutive prison terms, meaning he wouldn’t be eligible for parole for 50 years.

A sentencing hearing will be held April 5th.
