Thunder Assistant Coach Weist leaving team

The Drayton Valley Thunder are on the hunt for a new assistant coach with Derek Weist announcing his departure from the team. 

Weist is taking a new position as head scout for southern Alberta at the start of August. There he will recruit and head up the Southern Alberta scouting team. 

“It was the hardest decision I have made in a while. I love the Thunder and working with the players to support them to develop as men and as athletes,” said Weist. 

Weist was acquired last August with an extensive background coaching minor hockey at the bantam and midget levels.
