Eight people have been arrested and face a total of 26 charges after RCMP seized six stolen vehicles during a Tactical Response to Auto Theft Prevention (TRAP) project held in Red Deer this month.

Mounties say the project was conducted from January 8 to 10 in the City of Red Deer, with members of the Red Deer RCMP’s Crime Reduction Team (CRT) joined by members from Sylvan Lake GIS, Innisfail GIS, Rocky Mountain House GIS and Blackfalds GIS Units.

Police say two of those arrested were on parole for unrelated matters and had their parole immediately revoked.

RCMP say the charges laid include property, weapons and drug charges, as well as eight Traffic Safety Act counts, with three outstanding arrest warrants executed that involved 13 Criminal Code charges.

Charged are Curtis Lewis and Somer El-Majzoub who were arrested in a stolen truck.

Lewis is charged with possession of stolen property over $5000, while El-Majzoub faces charges of possession of stolen property over $5000, possession of a prohibited weapon and two counts of possession of a controlled substance.

Lewis and El-Majzoub are scheduled to appear in court on January 23.

Others arrested include Harvey Lee-Bernick and Darryl Boyce who Mounties allege were found in a stolen truck.

Lee-Bernick, accused of driving the vehicle, faces charges of possession of stolen property over $5000, one count of operation of a motor vehicle while prohibited and six counts of failing to comply with bail conditions. Lee-Bernick is scheduled to appear in court on February 4.

Boyce faces two counts of breach of probation, possession of a prohibited weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. He is scheduled to appear in court on January 30.

Chantel Christopher faces charges of possession of stolen property over $5000, possession of stolen property under $5000 and possession of a controlled substance. Police say Christopher was scheduled to appear in court on January 17 but failed to attend and is now wanted on warrants.

Brandon Loughlin is charged with possession of stolen property under $5000, possession of break-in instruments, resisting arrest, two counts of failing to comply with bail conditions and possession of a controlled substance.  He is scheduled to appear in court on January 28.

“Our Crime Reduction Team continues to see success from TRAP operations in locating stolen vehicles and apprehending criminals while averting public safety risks involved when criminals attempt to flee,” says Inspector Gerald Grobmeier of the Red Deer RCMP, in a press release. “The success of each operation continues to send an important message to repeat offenders.”
