Ponoka property tax increase set at 4%

PONOKA- The final 2017 Budget was approved by Ponoka Town Council this week.

Residents will see a 4% increase in their property taxes.

That equates to a $27 increase per $100,000 of assessed value on a residential property, and a $36 increase per $100,000 of assessed value on commercial properties.

Tax notices were mailed out on April 28.

Property owners are advised to watch for their notices in the mail and to contact the town office if they don’t receive their tax notice within a reasonable period of time to avoid late payment penalty charges.

“This is a very tight budget that was carefully combed through line by line to identify efficiencies and costs that could be cut without impacting service levels to citizens,” says Ponoka Mayor Rick Bonnett.

“Given the current economy, Council and Administration focused on the need to minimize taxes while maintaining essential service levels and continuing to fund capital projects and initiatives that position the Town for future growth,” says Mayor Bonnett.
