Day of Action

Rally to be held in Red Deer in opposition of two-tier health care

Aug 29, 2026 | 7:01 AM

On Tuesday, Friends of Medicare will join in on the nationwide Day of Action with multiple rallies scheduled across Alberta, including in Red Deer.

The purpose of the rallies is to join their allies in calls for the federal government to take action against Alberta’s Bill 11, more specifically, the province’s two-tier health care system.

The rally in Red Deer will take place at noon just outside Red Deer MP Burton Bailey’s constituency office.

“With the legislation set to take effect on September 1, health coalitions are coming together to send an urgent, unified message to the federal government: there is no more time to waste,” Friends of Medicare wrote in a media release. “We are urging federal Health Minister Marjorie Michel and Prime Minister Mark Carney to fulfil their responsibility to enforce the Canada Health Act to protect Canada’s universal, single-payer, public Medicare system and health care for Canadians that is accessible based on need, not ability to pay.”
