Lacombe-Ponoka MLA visiting Minnesota on trade mission

Lacombe-Ponoka UCP MLA Jennifer Johnson is headed to Minnesota.

The provincial government shared Friday that Johnson will be in ‘The Land of 10,000 Lakes’ from Aug. 27 to Sept. 3, to attend the Council of State Governments (CSG) Midwest’s annual Midwestern Legislative Conference.

MLA Johnson will meet with U.S. legislators, government officials and industry leaders in an attempt to strengthen relationships, advocate for Alberta’s interests and advance shared priorities in trade, energy, agriculture and economic growth, a release states.

“Alberta is a reliable partner, a global energy leader and a key contributor to North American economic security,” says Johnson.

“We will highlight how Alberta’s resources, innovation and expertise can help drive growth and strengthen supply chains.”

CSG Midwest is a regional, multilateral forum that brings together lawmakers and government leaders from 11 states: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota and Wisconsin. Alberta, Manitoba and Ontario are affiliate members and Saskatchewan is a full member. Alberta has been an affiliate member since 2010.

The province also notes that the U.S. Midwest is the largest American trade region for Alberta, with bilateral trade totalling more than 99.4 billion in 2025. Alberta’s exports accounted for $90.7 billion of that total.

energy: $83.3 billion
plastics: $1.4 billion
machinery: $917.4 million
inorganic chemicals: $727.4 million
meat: $621.6 million
