Province boosts RAMP grants to help more Albertans afford home accessibility upgrades

“Albertans with mobility challenges deserve to feel safe and independent in their own homes,” said Nathan Neudorf, Minister of Assisted Living and Social Services. “By increasing RAMP grants, we’re helping more people afford the accessibility modifications they need so they can remain in the communities they call home.”

In order to do this, the government is allocating $24 million through the Canada-Alberta Aging with Dignity agreement to support the increased grants.

“I’m pleased to see increased funding for RAMP. These higher grants will help more Albertans with mobility challenges live safely and comfortably at home and participate fully in their communities,” said Jacob McGregor, chair, Premier’s Council on the Status of Persons with Disabilities. “We will continue working with the community to make Alberta more accessible and inclusive.”

Eligible applicants such as Albertans who use wheelchairs and seniors who use walkers will be able to apply for RAMP grants to pay for accessibility modifications including ramps and stair lifts, door widening, flooring changes, bath lifts and bathtub door inserts.

“Having the lift in our home has been life-changing for our family. Our daughter can move between floors more safely and independently, and it has made everyday life easier for all of us,” said Lisa Hennessey, parent of a RAMP grant recipient.
