Scotia Wealth Management has officially launched its CARnivore fundraising campaign.

From now until the end of August, central Albertans can donate to the Red Deer Food Bank, with every dollar raised to be matched by Scotia Wealth Management up to $75,000.

The month-long fundraiser will wrap up with a community car show on Aug. 29 at the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame. That day, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., there will be dozens of antique cars on display as well as food trucks, entertainment, and more.

Dion Zukiwsky, founder of the Zukiwsky Group at Scotia Wealth Management, said this is the second year they’ve held the campaign, and it is a major priority for them every year.

“It’s something we are very passionate about, and we are fortunate to be in such a great community that we are big believers in that you have to give back. Our thought is the Red Deer Food Bank is one of the most worthy organizations that we want to be involved with because they support absolutely everybody in the community.”

Last year, they raised approximately $150,000 but are hoping to beat that this year.

Zukiwsky said when it comes to the car show, admission is free and they are hoping to make it even bigger and better than last year.

“We want people to come out, enjoy their time, look at some great cars, have some fun conversations, and bring some donations for the Red Deer Food Bank,” he said.

He said this campaign will continue to return on an annual basis.

“We find that towards the end of summer is when people are getting back into their routines but still want to be outside,” he added. “The car collectors are actually from all over Alberta, but we had a few from out of province last year. We had some from Saskatchewan, and I was chatting with one gentleman from Manitoba. It’s amazing how this community and the culture of antique cars kind of spreads out all over western Canada.”

Paul Harris, member of the Red Deer Food Bank board of directors, said it’s amazing to receive such tremendous support.

He said it couldn’t come at a better time of the year for them.

“Traditionally, we see a lot of our donations over Christmas, so in the summer we’re usually running in the negatives,” he said. “So to get something like this is just tremendous support. We really appreciate it.”

He said the money raised last year was a tremendous amount of money and they’re thankful for all the support. He’s confident central Albertans will do the same again this year.

Christina Sturgeon, senior social impact officer with the Red Deer Food Bank, said they’re always in need of monetary and food donations.

In 2025, they served over 30,000 clients, with 40 per cent of those being children. Since 2020, they’ve also doubled the number of families they help per month. This includes a 30 per cent increase year over year.

“We definitely need the extra support to be able to support those families in the way that we need to,” she added.

“At the end of the day, partners like Scotia Wealth Management really make that job easier for us. Every month we love the food donations that come in, but families need protein, fresh fruits, vegetables, dairy, and eggs. The majority of those are purchased by the food bank. Every dollar that’s donated helps us increase the food we can purchase and in turn support more families.”
