Red Deerians encouraged to adopt FireSmart principles

Red Deerians are encouraged to adopt FireSmart principles in their homes this wildfire season.

According to the City of Red Deer, FireSmart is a proactive approach to reducing wildfire risk around homes and buildings.

“Many FireSmart activities are quick and easy to complete, such as clearing dry leaves and pine needles from around your home, moving firewood away from buildings, trimming tree branches, and keeping gutters free of debris. While these tasks may seem small, they can make a significant difference in reducing the potential for wildfire to spread,” the city notes in a PSA.

“As part of the FireSmart initiative, the RDES Fire Prevention Bureau is offering free FireSmart home assessments for residents living in identified higher-risk neighbourhoods. During these assessments, Fire Prevention staff will visit your property, identify areas of concern and provide personalized recommendations to help reduce wildfire risk around your home.”
