Defrauded out of nearly $730K

Three Hills RCMP arrest B.C. man for alleged investment scam

Three Hills RCMP have charged a man from B.C. after an investigation into an alleged investment scam.

The situation dates back to February 2025, when Three Hills RCMP began investigating a scam in which a victim was allegedly defrauded of $729,900.

Police say the victim had researched high-interest savings online and was contacted by a company representative who claimed to be with JPMorgan.

They were offered a Guaranteed Investment Certificate rate (GIC), and the victim sent wire transfers in the amount of $500,000 and $230,000 to a beneficiary company – Sunlife Holdings Inc.

Three Hills RCMP determined that the company does not operate as a GIC holder in Canada and that the JPMorgan GIC was a common scam.

Police looked further into the bank account associated with Sunlife Holdings Inc. and determined the name of the account holder.

β€œIt was determined numerous wire transfers were sent from the account to bank accounts held by financial institutions in Canada and the United Kingdom,” the RCMP said in the release.

As a result, a 47-year-old man from Richmond, B.C., has been charged with fraud over $5,000 and laundering the proceeds of crime.

He was arrested on May 6 in Richmond and was remanded into custody; he will be transported to Alberta for court.

This comes after a Canada-wide warrant was issued for his arrest.
