The Town of Innisfail is soon to be on the hunt for its next Chief Administrative Officer (CAO).

Earlier this week, current CAO Todd Becker informed town council of his intent to retire later this year.

Becker has been with the town since August 2017.

“These types of leadership changes can be both stressful and exciting,” said Becker, noting that “it is an exciting opportunity for the organization and community.”

Mayor Jean Barclay also shared her well-wishes.

“We are grateful for Todd’s leadership and vision over the past nine years,” stated Barclay. “We are sad that he is leaving at the end of this year, but we know he has positioned Innisfail well to continue on a path of continued success.”

A release notes he has overseen multiple prominent changes, including the Deep Sky carbon removal centre coming to town, plus the refurbishment of the Innisfail Aquatic Centre.

Becker, who has spent 35 years in similar roles with municipalities in Saskatchewan and Alberta, will remain in his current role until Dec. 31 of this year.

He was also CAO of the Town of Rocky Mountain House from 2009 to 2017.

In the upcoming weeks, town council will formally start the process to hire Becker’s replacement.
