Trial dates have been set for one of two people charged after allegedly fleeing from police during a traffic stop last year.

Junelle Desjarlais, 42, a resident of Samson Cree Nation, is scheduled for trial in Wetaskiwin Court of Justice from July 22-24, 2026.

She’s charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, pursuit involving flight from a peace officer, discharging a firearm with intent, unauthorized possession of a weapon, and possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle.

It was on Nov. 4, 2025, when Maskwacis RCMP responded to a firearms complaint after shots were allegedly fired at a residence.

Police then located the vehicle involved and initiated a traffic stop but the vehicle allegedly fled the stop at a high rate of speed.

Mounties say they pursued the vehicle into Wetaskiwin County and with help from other RCMP detachments, a tire deflation device was used on the fleeing vehicle successfully.

Police say there were six occupants in the vehicle who were all arrested and taken to the Maskwacis RCMP detachment.

However, only two were charged, while the other four were released.

A 17-year-old, also a resident of Samson Cree Nation was the other individual charged. They face counts of discharging a firearm with intent, unauthorized possession of a weapon, and possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle.
