Inaugural Red Deer Pride Week set for July 5-13

Jun 13, 2025 | 10:33 AM

Red Deer Pride is excited to announce its inaugural pride week set to run from July 5 to 13.

The week-long celebration was put together by local queer organizations, community members, and businesses that want to celebrate and protect the rights of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.

The Pride Week festivities are designed to foster inclusivity, raise awareness, and promote the values of acceptance and solidarity.

“Red Deer Pride Week is a powerful reflection of what can happen when Queer organizations come together with a shared vision of joy, education, and resilience,” said Alisha McManus, a member of The Queer Agenda, the driving force of the organizing collective.

“Through deep collaboration between the Queer community, local partners and allies, this week will offer a vibrant mix of celebrations, storytelling and learning opportunities that honour the richness of our 2SLGBTQIA+ experiences in Central Alberta. Pride is important because it reminds us that progress is built in true community – through connection, creativity, and the courage to show up for one another.”

Those looking to attend can look forward to a wide range of events including educational talks, social gatherings, and live performances.

The events includes a 2-Spirit Pow Wow and educational workshops featuring guest speakers and panels on how to be a better ally and advocate for 2SLGBTQIA+ rights and inclusion.

There will also be a queer prom, pride socials & networking events, a burlesque & drag showcase, an inclusive church service, and interactive events such as drag bingo and drag bowling.

The week will wrap up with the Capstone Block Party, which is a community-wide celebration that will bring people of all ages and identities on Sunday, July 13.

It will feature a drag walk, live music, food trucks, local vendors, and a family-friendly atmosphere.

Red Deer Pride says the week wouldn’t be possible without the support of local businesses, community leaders, and volunteers.

It’s more than an event, but rather a movement that looks to create change and equality.
