Apr 30, 2024 | 10:30 AM

A teacher at Red Deer Catholic’s (RDCRS) St. Patrick’s Community School is the division’s 2024 nominee for the Zone 4 Edwin Parr Award.

The award, given out by the Alberta School Board Association (ASBA) recognizes outstanding first-year teachers, and has been awarded since 1964.

The nominee from RDCRS this year is Grade 8 teacher Kaitlyn McCulloch.

“Kaitlyn’s innovative and engaging teaching methods have created a positive and dynamic learning environment in her classroom. She has embraced our school goal of authentic student engagement by bringing in guest speakers, planning dissections, labs, and field trips to make science come alive,” said Mandy Reed, principal.

“Kaitlyn goes beyond traditional teaching methods to understand each student’s unique learning style, fostering a sense of inclusivity and support.”

McCulloch says the nomination is a tremendous honour.

“I take great pride in representing our division,” said McCulloch. “Merely being considered for the Edwin Parr Award is a noteworthy achievement. At the gala, I look forward to representing Red Deer Catholic and celebrating the successes of all those nominated.”

The 2024 ASBA Edwin Parr Award Zone 4 winner will be announced at an awards ceremony to be held on May 27 at the Innisfail Golf Club.
