Pair arrested after RCMP recover 21 allegedly stolen vehicles

Red Deer RCMP have arrested two people after executing a search warrant at a property in Clearwater County.

On April 10, as part of ongoing property crime investigations within the city of Red Deer, Red Deer’s Crime Reduction Team, with assistance of the Emergency Response Team, Central Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit, Auto Theft South, and Rocky Mountain House detachment, executed the warrant.

As a result, officers recovered 21 allegedly stolen vehicles, including motorcycles, dirt bikes, trailers, SUVs and a boat, along with 10 firearms.

“All of us are proud to see the experience and expertise of general duty and specialized RCMP units coordinate to produce these results,” says acting Red Deer RCMP commander, Insp. Heidi Ravenhill.

“It really exemplifies the value offered when your Alberta RCMP is asked to respond to specific community needs in Red Deer and throughout central Alberta.”

Mac Smith, 41, a resident of Clearwater County, has been charged with the following offences:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000 x4
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000 x5
  • Possession of weapon obtained by crime
  • Fail to comply with probation order

Following a Judicial Interim Release Hearing, Smith was released by a Justice for the court on a release order. He is scheduled to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Rocky Mountain House on May 1, 2024.

April Sanford, 39, a resident of Rocky Mountain House, has been charged with the following offences:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000 x4
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000 x5
  • Possession of weapon obtained by crime

Following a Judicial Interim Release Hearing, Sanford was remanded into custody. She is scheduled to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Rocky Mountain House on May 1, 2024.
