TUE. FEB. 6 – A solid effort by the Rebels came up just short in a 4-3 loss to the Swift Current Broncos at the InnovationPlex in Swift Current. Kalan Lind, Ollie Josephson and Kai Uchacz each scored for Red Deer. Talon Brigley had two assists. Chase Wutzke made 23 saves. Red Deer was 0-for-3 on the power play while Swift Current was 1-for-5.

THIS WEEK

The Rebels host the Calgary Hitmen on Tuesday, February 13 at the Peavey Mart Centrium. Red Deer is 4-1-0-0 this season versus.

Then it’s a home-and-home series versus the Edmonton Oil Kings, Friday at the Peavey Mart Centrium and Saturday up at Rogers Place in Edmonton. Both games start at 7 p.m. Red Deer is 5-1-0-0 versus Edmonton so far this season.

After that it’s the Family Day Matinee as the Rebels entertain the Lethbridge Hurricanes at the Peavey Mart Centrium at 2 p.m. Red Deer has points in three of four games versus Lethbridge this season (1-1-0-1). Puck drop is at a special time of 2 p.m.

All Rebels games – home and away – are broadcast live on 106.7 REWIND Radio and CHL TV. Tickets for all Rebels home games are available at ticketsalberta.com.

JANUARY’S BEST

Defenceman Hunter Mayo has been honoured as the Rebels Mitchell and Jewell Player of the Month for January. The Martensville, SK native had 11 points in 11 games, including his first career hat trick Jan. 17 vs. Saskatoon. Rookie forward Matthew Gard (Winnipeg, MB) earned the team’s Telus Scholastic Player of the Month award for January.

CMHA TALK TODAY

One of the most comprehensive mental health awareness and suicide prevention programs for amateur sports in Canada, the Canadian Mental Health Association’s “Talk Today” aims to promote suicide prevention, the mental health of young athletes and to spread awareness about the benefits of positive mental health throughout communities across the country. Specifically, across the CHL’s three member leagues (WHL, OHL & QMJHL), the Talk Today program has provided over 4,810 players, coaches, billet parents, and staff with mental health and suicide awareness training since its inception. PAINT THE ICE

Stick around after the game on Family Day (Feb. 19) as fans of all ages are invited to help “Paint the Ice” at the Peavey Mart Centrium. Paint and brushes will be supplied.

SOCKEY DAY IN RED DEER

When the Rebels host the Lethbridge Hurricanes for the Family Day Matinee it will once again be Sockey Day in Red Deer in support of United Way Central Alberta. Fans attending the game will receive a pair of socks, provided by generous community partners, or bring their own to toss on the ice during the game. These socks will be gathered by volunteers and distributed through various agencies to people in need throughout central Alberta. More details at caunitedway.ca.
