Wolf Creek Public Schools’ Board looks forward to second half of school year as holiday break begins

“The holiday season is upon us and it’s a time for reflection and to take stock of how far we have come. In Wolf Creek Public Schools, we’ve made significant strides in enhancing educational opportunities for our students.

“Our implementation of a common report card across grades K-9 is a testament to our commitment to clarity and consistency in student assessment. This initiative, now in its second year, aligns with the new curriculum and has been fine-tuned based on valuable feedback from stakeholders, ensuring parents have a clearer understanding of their children’s progress.

“In the realm of dual credit, our students have excelled remarkably, completing over 200 courses equivalent to more than 700 high school and post-secondary credits. This achievement not only demonstrates their dedication but also opens up diverse career paths. Our partnership with Red Deer Polytechnic, bolstered by a $100,000 grant, is expanding these opportunities, creating flexible learning spaces for a broad range of dual credit programs.

“Partnerships, such as with RDP and Olds College are crucial in advancing career development and post-secondary pathways for our students, ensuring they have access to a multitude of educational opportunities.

“Taking part in the inaugural pilot of a Digital Exam Portal marked another milestone, setting the stage for more digital assessments in the future.

“Furthermore, we are proud to have had our initial Wisdom and Guidance Committee meeting of the 2023/24 school year. This is a significant engagement platform, bringing together Indigenous Elders, families, and community members to contribute to our educational journey.

“Lastly, the construction of the Iron Ridge Secondary Campus in Blackfalds, on track for its 2024 opening, is a physical embodiment of our commitment to advocating for state-of-the-art educational facilities.

“All the work that is being done Divisionally also includes the incredible efforts and dedication of teachers and staff. Your dedication and love for teaching fill classrooms with knowledge. We are excited to see the engagement of families in Wolf Creek. Your energy and involvement make our schools the vibrant places they are. And our students, your energy and dreams inspire us every day. Keep chasing those dreams.

“As we look forward to the holidays, I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to you all. Your collective efforts make WCPS a vibrant and nurturing educational community. I wish you all a Merry Christmas, a Happy New Year, and a restful holiday season. Let’s continue to build on these successes in the coming year!”

Wolf Creek Public Schools Board is served by Trustees representing the communities and rural areas of Alix, Bentley, Blackfalds, Bluffton, Clive, Eckville, Lacombe, Ponoka, and Rimbey. Serving approximately 7,300 students, from Kindergarten to Grade 12, WCPS employs approximately 412 teachers and 350 support staff in 30 schools, including five colony schools, throughout the Division.
