Stettler emergency department closed Saturday and Sunday

Dec 16, 2023 | 10:32 AM

Alberta Health Services says the emergency department in Stettler is closed Saturday and Sunday.

The announcement was shared after 5 p.m. on Friday.

It’s anticipated the ED will be shuttered from 7 a.m. on Saturday until 7 p.m. on Sunday due to an unexpected gap in staffing coverage as a result of illness.

The ED will resume normal 24/7 operation at 7 p.m. December 17.

The Stettler emergency room also closed last Saturday.

Rest of AHS statement:

AHS is working to ensure residents continue to have access to the care they need during this time. Available nursing staff will remain in the ED to provide triage and assessments to patients who present to the department during the temporary closure. Patients will be referred to alternative care options depending on their condition.

EMS will transport patients requiring emergency care to nearby facilities, including Lacombe Hospital and Care Centre, Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre or the Drumheller Health Centre.

Residents are reminded to call Health Link at 811, which is available 24/7 for non-emergency, health-related questions.

Other services at the Stettler Hospital and Care Centre are not impacted by this temporary closure. Patients and continuing care residents will continue to receive the care and support they need.

AHS is grateful for the support of staff and physicians in helping to minimize this temporary disruption as much as possible. Additionally, AHS appreciates the support of surrounding healthcare centres and would like to thank the community for its patience and understanding during this time.
