August 2022 Incident

Lacombe County man sentenced in Daysland bank break-in

Sep 6, 2023 | 4:34 PM

One of two Lacombe County men charged following a break-in at a bank in Daysland last year has been sentenced to time served.

Tyler Jackson Patten, 33, was sentenced in Wetaskiwin Court of Justice on Sept. 5, 2023, to time served- approximately 8.5 months for time already spent behind bars.

He was also issued a probation order with a long list of conditions, including having no contact or communication with his co-accused, going for assessment and participating in and completing any counselling, treatment or programming directed by his probation officer, as well as entering into and completing the Integrated Offender Management Program.

Patten was sentenced after previously pleading guilty to break and enter/commit theft in regards to the incident last summer.

RCMP say it was about 4:15 a.m. on August 31, 2022, when Killam-Forestburg detachment members received a report of a break and enter to the Daysland ATB Financial branch.

When police arrived, the suspects had already fled. However, investigation determined they had used a recently stolen Zoom Boom piece of machinery to access the bank, stealing an ATM, and causing a great deal of damage, police say.

Early in the investigation, the Central Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit identified individuals who they believed were involved in this crime. As a result, and with the help of the RCMP Helicopter, two individuals were arrested, and parts of the ATM, significant amounts of currency, vehicles, and other stolen items were recovered.

Co-accused, Nicholas Avin Klink, 30, has his matter scheduled to return to Wetaskiwin Court of Justice on Sept. 19, 2023.
