Sandra Schmirler Foundation grants thousands for new piece of equipment at Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre’s NICU
The Red Deer Regional Health Foundation (RDRHF) has accepted a grant that’s anticipated to have a major impact on the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre.
The grant of $34,800 is from the Sandra Schmirler Foundation and will support the purchase of an Incubator/Radiant Warmer for the NICU.
Amie Mays, Unit 26 manager for pediatrics and the NICU at Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, says they currently have to share their one and only Warmer with another unit, so a new one will allow them to have a Warmer of their own.
“This will allow us to support just in time procedures right at the babies bedside,” she explains. “So often, babies require a little bit higher level of care. They need IVs, they might need special procedures that staff just need a little bit more room to work on, so we can move the baby over to a Warmer like this and do those procedures.”
