Tornado confirmed near Cynthia Monday night

Officials with Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) confirm there was a second tornado that touched down near Cynthia, northwest of Drayton Valley Monday night.

At approximately 6:05 p.m., on July 24, officials say a funnel cloud was reported near Cynthia associated with a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado. At a later time, a video was shared showing a brief ground circulation.

Then, at approximately 9:30 p.m. on July 24, a tornado was observed crossing a highway near Wildwood and called in to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC).

The weather agency says many downed trees were reported in the area, however, damage specific to the tornadoes has not been assessed at this time. Neither tornado has yet been given any rating as further investigation is required.
