Consort emergency department to remain temporarily closed until August

Jul 6, 2023 | 12:42 PM

The Consort Hospital and Care Centre emergency department (ED) will remain temporarily closed until August 2, according the Alberta Health Services (AHS).

The Village is located roughly 143 km east of the Town of Stettler.

AHS says the temporary closure is due to sustained and significant shortages among nursing staff.

According to their website, the temporary closure began in August 2022 and was anticipated to reopen this July.

They say recruitment efforts are ongoing and will they will continue to reassess their ability to reopen the ED sooner.

Patients presenting to the ED during regular operating hours of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Thursday, and 9 a.m. to noon on Friday will be referred to EDs in surrounding communities or to the local medical clinic for followup with a family physician, as appropriate. EMS will be diverting patients to facilities in Coronation, Castor or Provost as needed.

Patients are being asked to call 911 if they have a medical emergency.

Depending on their needs, patients seeking care may call Health Link at 811, which is available 24/7 for non-emergency, health-related questions.
