The Town of Blackfalds will be filled with magic and entertainment this Friday.

The Blackfalds Public Library (5302 Broadway Ave.) has announced that Christopher Cool, some say Calgary’s Funniest and Most Kid-Friendly Magician, will be holding his new literacy library magic show “Check This Out” at 2:30 p.m. on July 7.

The engaging and interactive performance aims to take young readers, from ages four to eight, on a thrilling journey filled with magic, music, storytelling, rubber chickens, bananas, a dinosaur, and much more.

Combining mesmerizing magic skills with a unique brand of comedy, Cool says he strives to bring literacy to life during the 45 minute performance in a way that sparks imagination and fosters a love for reading.

The show is crafted to align with the TD Summer Reading Program’s objective of promoting literacy and encouraging young minds to explore the world of books.

“I’m thrilled to bring the ‘Check This Out’ magic show to Blackfalds Public Library,” said Cool. “My goal is to make learning fun and inspire children to embark on new adventures through the pages of a book. With magic, comedy, and lots of surprises, this show will leave kids laughing, learning, and craving more reading adventures.”

Raised in Winnipeg and now living in Calgary, Cool says he caught the magic bug when he was just five years old after watching a magician perform for his kindergarten class. He says it wasn’t long after receiving his first magic set that he was cutting his sisters in half, sticking swords through them and making them float.

Today, he performs in schools, libraries, and children’s events across the province.

Cool was named the 2023 Calgary’s Child Magazine Parent’s Choice Award Winner for ‘Best Party Entertainment’; his fourth year in a row.

Admission is free and families are being encouraged to arrive early on Friday to get a good seat. Registration may be required.
