PAMZ announces 2023 Martha Kostuch Scholarship winner

The Parkland Airshed Management Zone (PAMZ) is pleased to announce the recipient of this year’s Martha Kostuch Scholarship for Environmental Excellence, Ms. Lauren Olson of Red Deer, AB.

Officials with the organization say Olson will graduate from St. Joseph’s High School later this month. This fall she will attend Lethbridge College where she will pursue a diploma in Renewable Resource Management, with a focus on fish and wildlife biology.

“The award selection committee was extremely impressed by the combination of Lauren’s demonstrated passion for the environment and her future education and career aspirations” said Kevin Warren, PAMZ Executive Director.

Officials say Olson has been a strong member of Red Deer’s volunteer community within a multiple youth mentorship program while pursuing her passion for environmental conservation. With her educational goals and career aspirations as a wildlife biologist, Olson hopes to be able to support Alberta’s efforts in taking more preventative measures against wildfires which she believes are one of the largest threats to Alberta’s air quality, officials point out.
