May 31, 2023 | 11:17 AM

Sentencing has been scheduled early next year for a man charged in the death of a woman in Ponoka two-and-a-half years ago.

Ryan Jake Applegarth, 30, of Ponoka, is scheduled for sentencing in Wetaskiwin Court of King’s Bench on Jan. 26, 2024. The date was set on May 30, 2023, following his trial in Wetaskiwin Court of King’s Bench from May 1-5, 2023.

It was on Nov. 5, 2020 when RCMP, along with EMS, responded to a 911 call for an injured female at a residential complex in Ponoka.

Chantelle Firingstoney, 26, a resident of Ponoka, was found deceased.

The Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit took over the investigation, and following an autopsy, determined the cause of death to be homicide.
