Man sentenced in two separate Red Deer firearms incidents
A man charged in two separate firearms incidents in Red Deer has been sentenced to a total of 10 months in jail.
Justin James Poteet, 28, was sentenced in Red Deer provincial court on January 11, 2023, to 60 days behind bars on one count of possession of a weapon dangerous to the public regarding an incident in the Eastview neighbourhood on Nov. 14, 2020.
He was also sentenced to 300 days in jail and given a lifetime firearms prohibition, to be served concurrently to the above sentence, after being convicted on counts of possession of a prohibited firearm and contravened regulation, in regards to an East Hill incident on Jan. 9, 2021.
Poteet was initially charged following the Nov. 14, 2020 incident where Red Deer RCMP responded just after 12:20 p.m. to a 911 call about a firearms related incident in the area of 38 Avenue and 45 Street.
