Oct 27, 2021 | 10:35 AM

A man charged in two separate firearms incidents in Red Deer over the past year will now go to trial in 2022.

Justin James Poteet, 27, is scheduled to go to trial for one of his matters on Jun. 1, 2022, and speak to his other matter the same day.

In the matter set for trial, Poteet is charged in an incident that began around 9:51 p.m. on Jan. 8, 2021, when Red Deer RCMP received a firearms complaint at a residence near Arnold Close and Amlee Close.

During the investigation there was a large police presence, with Mounties later confirming that a gun was fired, but no one was injured.

Poteet faces seven counts in relation to the incident, including possession of a loaded, prohibited or restricted firearm, possession of a firearm knowing he was not the holder of a license under which he may possess it, contravened regulation, unauthorized possession of a firearm, careless use of a firearm, discharge a restricted firearm, and possession of a prohibited firearm.

In Poteet’s other matter, he faces counts of possession of a weapon dangerous to the public, and possession of a prohibited firearm.

On Nov. 14, 2020, Red Deer RCMP responded just after 12:20 p.m. to a 911 call about a firearms related incident in the area of 38 Avenue and 45 Street.

Members arrested a 26-year-old male at the time.
