Rebels make a trade, and say goodbye to an import

Oct 1, 2022 | 9:54 AM

The Red Deer Rebels have acquired Logan Cunningham from the Spokane Chiefs, the club announced this week.

Red Deer is getting the 2004-born defenceman in exchange for a conditional 7th round pick in the 2023 Western Hockey League Prospects Draft.

Cunningham was selected by Spokane in round three, 59th overall at the 2019 WHL Prospects Draft.

The Yellowknife native has eight points in 65 regular season games with the Chiefs.

Meantime, the club has also announced that defenceman Vojtech Port (Czechia, ’05) was claimed of CHL Import Waivers by the Edmonton Oil Kings.

Port was selected by the Rebels 49th overall at the 2022 CHL Import Draft.

The Rebels now have two Import players on their roster as permitted by CHL roster rules – defenceman Christoffer Sedoff (Finland, ’02) and forward Frantisek Formanek (Czechia, ’04).

Up next for the Rebels is a date against CHL phenom Conor Bedard (5G, 2A, 4GP) Saturday night at the Centrium.

Puck drop is at 7 with the broadcast on 106.7 REWIND Radio starting at 6:30.
