City of Lacombe holds Vesta Energy Fish & Fetch Park grand opening

The Vesta Energy Fish & Fetch Park held its grand opening in Lacombe on Thursday with city officials, Vesta representatives, residents and their pets.

In April 2022, Lacombe city council approved a proposal from Vesta Energy Ltd. to purchase the exclusive naming rights to the Eastside Recreation Area, located between 53 Ave and 34 St, at $17,500 per year over a seven-year term, with an option to renew before the agreement’s conclusion.

“Lacombe city council is excited to have a proven local business like Vesta Energy take on the naming rights for the Eastside Recreation Area,” said Mayor Grant Creasey. “Vesta’s commitment to their local community is to be commended, and I know Lacombe dog owners, fish and game enthusiasts, and outdoor lovers of all kinds will enjoy the Vesta Energy Fish & Fetch Park for years to come.”

The park has been operating throughout Summer 2022 and includes a fully fenced dog park with agility equipment, solar lighting, potable water, dedicated parking, and a small dog area.

“Vesta Energy is thrilled to participate in the Eastside Recreation Area development project. Supporting the development of community outdoor activity space fits perfectly with our sponsorship platform that is targeted to support and enrich the local communities in which we operate. We look forward to the opening and use of Lacombe’s latest recreational area, the Vesta Energy Fish & Fetch Park,” said Mark Lansing, Vesta’s Vice President for Health, Safety, and Environment (VP HSE) & Sustainability.

Adjacent to the new dog park, the Lacombe Fish & Game Association improved the west fishpond area, including the addition of a new aerator, casting docks, and a pedestrian bridge for overall accessibility and functionality throughout the park.

Officials state that the agreement aligns with council’s strategic plan for City Administration to look for innovative opportunities for sponsorship and advertising on City-owned equipment and infrastructure and identify alternative revenue sources to help keep taxation below annual inflation.
