Saving Grace Animal Society hosts Pints for Pets fundraiser

The Saving Grace Animal Society (SGAS) will be hosting another year of Pints for Pets, a fundraising event bringing beer and animal lovers together.

On Sunday, July 24 from 2 – 6 p.m. Lacombe’s Blindman Brewery (Bay F, 3413 53 Ave) will again be hosting the event on site for what they call their “charity of choice”, in support of local animal rescue.

“Coming into 2022 after the ups and downs of last year, we were hopeful that the rescue world would be less challenging and we would have a little more room to breathe. Unfortunately, 2022 has brought the complete opposite. Intakes are high, adoptions are low, donations are not the steady flow we would like to see and we are just trying our best every day to keep up,” said Amanda McClughan, Co-Executive Director.

The team says they are hoping to fill their rescue van with much needed supplies such as puppy kibble, kitten kibble, canned cat food, canned dog food, chicken-free dog treats, wet food and pee pads.

“This year more than ever we have had to rely on the public for donations to feed our animals. With so many animals in care, it’s been near impossible to keep our shelves stocked for long,” said McClughan.

Adoptable dogs and cats will be present along with SGAS merchandise tables. Proceeds from the feature brew, The Cherry Cobbler Sour, will be donated back to the society.

“We’ve noticed a trend of attendance with in-person fundraising events being lower than previous years. I think coming out of last year people are just busier than ever trying to make up for lost fun. While we fully support that, fundraisers are so important to our society as we operate solely off of donations from the public,” she said. “Luckily we know that next to the support of animal lovers we can count on people’s love for beer, tacos and some good old socialization!”

Founded in 2018, SGAS operates an animal shelter in Alix, Alberta as well as an off-site sanctuary for the rescue and recovery of animals of all sizes. The society works with trainers, veterinary staff and volunteers to rehabilitate animals to ensure every animal receives a ‘saving grace’ and an opportunity for a new home.

With over 3,000 adoptions and 15 major rescue missions to date, the charity relies solely off a donation-based operating budget. The shelter takes 24/7 emergency calls, rescuing animals from across Alberta and into Saskatchewan.

“Who doesn’t love the combination of taco’s, puppies and beer? It’s a match made in heaven. We hope to fill the taproom and crowd the outdoor seating area and really make this event a huge success!” said McClughan.
