Rimbey, Red Deer projects get Co-op Community Spaces grants

Jun 22, 2022 | 10:25 AM

Rimbey and Red Deer will benefit from the latest round of Co-op Community Spaces grants.

Rimbey will get funding for a new outdoor rink which, according to a release, will ensure the community can take part in lower-cost activities like hockey, ringette, basketball and other things.

The project, which is located at Rimbey Elementary, is getting $100,000 towards its roughly $200,000 budget. The rest had already been raised for the project, which was the brainchild of three Grade 6 students — Reed Toussaint, Tavish Beagle and Dutch Felt — four years ago.

In Red Deer, funding will go to the Waskasoo natural playground project.

The Red Deer project is receiving $40,000.

“Co-op Community spaces is about our commitment to protect, beautify and improve the spaces where communities across Western Canada come together,” said Pam Skotnitsky, Vice-President of Strategy at Federated Co-operatives Limited (FCL). “The work and dedication of our recipient groups is inspiring, and we are proud to contribute to projects that will benefit the people in these communities for years to come.”

Since 2015, the Co-op Community Spaces program has given $11.5 million to 160 projects in three categories: recreation, environmental conservation and urban agriculture.
