Suspect arrested after police incident near Lacombe

UPDATE 2 – 3: 20 p.m., Oct. 25

RCMP say members initially responded around 2:10 p.m. on Sunday to a complaint a residence near Hwy 2A and Range Road 270A.

Red Deer RCMP, the RCMP Emergency Response Team, and Lacombe Police Service assisted.

This caused traffic to be diverted, and consequentially, increased flow on the QEII Highway.

A 39-year-old male from Lacombe County was taken into custody and has been charged with assault causing bodily harm, and assault.

There will be no further updates.

UPDATE – 8:16 p.m., Oct. 24

RCMP say roadblocks on Hwy 2A have been removed, and a suspect has been taken into custody without further incident.

Further details are still to be released, police say.

ORIGINAL – 6:03 p.m., Oct. 24

A police incident currently has traffic being diverted near Lacombe.

RCMP advised at just after 6 p.m. on Sunday that they are investigating an assault and possible firearms-related complaint in Lacombe County. Lacombe Police Service is assisting.

Highway 2A is currently blocked in and out of the south end of Lacombe (near Range Road 270A).

Motorists are asked to use the QEII Highway as an alternate route.

RCMP say more details will be released as the investigation permits.
