A Red Deer organization offering after school and out-of-school programs for local youth has received a funding boost to help support those efforts.

With the generous support of RBC and Employment and Social Development Canada, BGC Canada has announced that BGC Red Deer will receive $35,000 to deliver its Raise The Grade program from Sept. 27, 2021 – July 31, 2022.

Raise the Grade is a BGC Canada National Program that supports high school youth to gain the skills they need to be successful in school, work and life.

Through hands-on learning opportunities, a focus on exploring personal interests and goals, and supportive relationships with Club staff and mentors, youth who participate in RTG are supported to achieve the following outcomes:

  • High school graduation
  • Insight about their personal interests and how to pursue them
  • Sufficient credits and grades for post-secondary education, including apprenticeship, college or university
  • Career aspirations that match their personal interests and goals

“Our Vision is that ‘All young people discover and achieve their full potential’ and this critical support from RBC and Employment and Social Development Canada will propel us forward towards that Vision,” says Rob Lewis, Executive Director, in a press release. “Building on a strong education makes it possible for youth to achieve what would have otherwise been out of reach. My heartfelt thanks on behalf of the youth who will take advantage of Raise the Grade program this fall.”

Officials say Raise the Grade is composed of five pillars: Academic Support, Life After School, Digital Literacy, Youth Engagement and Mentorship.
