A central Alberta man is facing numerous charges following an incident involving police on Thursday.

RCMP say it was just after 9 a.m. on Sept. 23 when they received a report from a concerned citizen about a suspicious vehicle in the Hawkridge area in Penhold. Witnesses told police a male was sleeping in the vehicle since the early morning and the vehicle was still running. Innisfail RCMP went to the location and determined the vehicle was stolen out of Okotoks.

Police arrested the lone male suspect after gaining access to the vehicle. A search of the vehicle found a 9MM Glock 17 handgun, 9MM ammo, as well as illegal drugs, including methamphetamine and fentanyl on his person. A number of break-in tools were also located in the vehicle.

As a result, 39-year-old Trevor Norman Legge of central Alberta, has been charged with:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime
  • Possession of a restricted firearm
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized
  • Carrying a concealed weapon
  • Possession of a weapon contrary to an order to surrender
  • Possession of a controlled substance X 2
  • Possession of break in tools
  • Resist arrest
  • Fail to comply with release order conditions x 3

Legge was also charged with a number of Traffic Safety Act offences.

At the time of his arrest, Legge was wanted on an outstanding warrant out of Drumheller, and on a Canada Wide Apprehension Order.

After a Judicial Interim Release hearing, Legge was remanded to appear in Red Deer Provincial Court on Sept 24, 2021.
