We were thrilled to have “THE KING” in the house and on our Red Deer menu in June!

To say the last 15 months has left us all shook up would be an understatement, but all the more reason to raise some money for a great cause.

Bob Sutton of Rahr Malting Co. served as our June Guest Chef in Red Deer, co-creating “THE KING”, two 4oz Alberta beef smash patties, pomegranate onion jam, rhubarb relish, caramel bananas, peanut butter mousse and pepper bacon on a toasted brioche bun! $2 from every burger sold is going directly to Bob’s charity of choice, the Smiles Thru Lindsey Foundation.

Smiles Thru Lindsey was founded in 2015 by Rick and Cindy More after their daughter Lindsey tragically took her own life. Rick says his daughter wanted to help her peers who suffered from depression even before they knew Lindsey suffered from it. The More’s hope is to see the endowment fund bring aide to those who suffer, for many years to come. To date the community has raised over $500,000 for the fund, allowing the foundation to deliver significant grants to three local school divisions for the development of programs that will help young students with their mental health. The foundation is also instrumental in the creation of the Central Alberta Child Advocacy Centre.

Bob Sutton feels it is vital as a community that we highlight and support mental health programs.

“People struggling with mental health often feel confused, scared, embarrassed, and it can be very difficult to reach out and ask for help. Living through the pandemic and its constant disruptions to our normal lives has undoubtedly had a huge impact on the stress and mental wellness of so many groups but the impact on our youth has to have been unimaginable,” says Sutton.

Sutton has seen firsthand, family members and friends struggle to understand their feelings of despair, and says Smiles Thru Lindsey helps raise that awareness that it is important to talk and ask for help.

Thanks to your support of our beloved Burger of the Month Program, Bob has helped us hand over $966 to the Smiles Thru Lindsay Foundation on July 6. Thanks to the amazing support we see from our guest’s month after month, we have had the opportunity to give back over $80,000 to local charities over the past 53 months! THANK-YOU!
