Bear sighting reported in Sylvan Lake

UPDATE (2:14 p.m.)

Officials have confirmed the bear sighting in the west side of Sylvan Lake.

Fish and Game Wardens are now on-site.

Residents are asked to stay safe, keep an eye out and do not approach the bear if you see it. Instead you are to contact Municipal Enforcement at 403-858-7280.

Town of Sylvan Lake officials say they’ve received reports over the past 24 hours of a small bear spotted in the town’s south end.

“The bear was spotted last night crossing Memorial Trail near Meadowlands Golf Course and heading northeast towards the Vista area, near Ryders Ridge,” the town said in a Facebook post Thursday morning. “The Town has contacted local game wardens and wildlife officials as a precaution.”

Residents are advised not to approach a bear if you in fact see one, and to instead call Sylvan Lake Municipal Enforcement at 403-858-7280.
