Red Deer with 372 active cases of COVID-19

The number of active COVID-19 cases in Red Deer continues to climb higher.

Data released by Alberta Health on Friday shows 72 new cases of coronavirus in Red Deer, bringing the total number of active cases in the city to 372, up 54 from Thursday.

Recoveries increased by 18 on Friday to 3,136, while the total number of cases identified in the city since the start of the pandemic is 3,544. The number of deaths in Red Deer attributed to the virus remains at 36.

Provincially, 1,616 new cases of COVID-19 were identified in Alberta on Friday, bringing the total number of active cases in the province now to 16,759 – up 536 from Thursday.

898 new variant cases were also reported on Friday, bringing the total number of active variant cases in the province to 8,967 or 53.5 per cent of all active cases.

With 16,876 test conducted over the past 24 hours, the province’s positivity rate is roughly 9.6 per cent.

423 Albertans are currently in hospital with COVID-19, up seven from Thursday, while 93 of those patients are in ICU, also up seven from the day before.

On a positive note, no new deaths were reported to Alberta Health over the last 24 hours, so the virus’ death toll in our province remains at 2,034.

In terms of the vaccine rollout, 1,082,391 doses of COVID vaccine have now been administered in Alberta as of April 15.

In Alberta Health Services (AHS) Central Zone, there are 1,629 active cases of COVID-19 as of Apr. 15, with 40 patients in hospital and four of those in ICU at Red Deer Regional Hospital. 129 deaths have also been attributed to the virus throughout the zone.

Elsewhere across the province, there are currently 7,453 active cases of COVID-19 in the Calgary Zone, 4,388 active cases in the Edmonton Zone, 2,285 cases in the North Zone, 928 in the South Zone, and 76 additional active cases in unconfirmed locations.
