Mar 31, 2021 | 4:53 PM

Over half a dozen violation tickets and over a dozen warnings were issued after law enforcement and Fish and Wildlife officers conducted checks and patrols around Pigeon Lake last weekend.

On Mar. 27, RCMP officers from Wetaskiwin, Wetaskiwin Integrated Traffic Unit, Thorsby and Breton detachments, as well as a Community Peace Officer from Wetaskiwin County, joined up with Fish and Wildlife Enforcement officers to conduct the operation with the goal of keeping recreational areas enjoyable and safe for all Albertans.

Mounties say a number of check stops were conducted at major access points on Pigeon Lake. RCMP officers were paired with Fish and Wildlife officers to check for compliance with respect to holding proper angling licences and adhering to catch limits, as well as traffic related offences and alcohol and cannabis related offences.

Enforcement outcomes of the operation include:

  • 123 vehicles checked
  • 97 Mandatory Alcohol Screenings (MAS)
  • 26 Anglers checks
  • 9 Verbal warnings
  • 5 Written warnings
  • 7 Violation tickets issued
  • 2 Walleye seizures for tagging and licence violations
  • 1 vehicle seizure as a result of a MAS producing a caution code and a 72 hour drivers licence suspension

Police say this successful operation is a great example of the partnership and collaboration of enforcement agencies in Alberta working together.
