Red Deer with 172 active COVID-19 cases

Red Deer’s active COVID-19 case count continues to rise.

Thursday’s updated numbers from the province show the city with 172 active cases, up 28 from Wednesday.

Recoveries are up to 2,837, an increase of nine as the total number of COVID-19 cases attributed to Red Deer rose 37 to 3,046.

Red Deer’s death toll attributed to COVID-19 remains 34.

The Central Zone has 611 active cases as of Thursday and 35 hospitalizations, including five in the ICU at Red Deer Regional Hospital. The zone has had 122 deaths attributed to COVID-19.

Alberta reported another 764 cases of COVID-19 on Thursday. That’s out of 14,062 tests for a positivity rate of 5.4 per cent.

The number of active cases in Alberta now stands at 6,835, an increase of 301.

The province identified another 191 variant cases, which now make up 21 per cent Alberta’s active COVID-19 cases. Of the 2,301 total variant cases in Alberta, 343 are in the Central Zone.

There are 294 hospitalizations from COVID-19 as of Thursday, an increase of nine, including 55 in intensive care, up two.

Three more deaths were reported to Alberta Health over the past 24 hours to bring Alberta’s total form COVID-19 to 1,976. The latest deaths include:

• March 21. A male in his 60s in North Zone. There are no known comorbidities at this time.

• March 23. A female in her 60s in Edmonton Zone. The case included comorbidities.

• March 25. A female in her 70s linked to the outbreak at Grandview Village in South Zone. The case included comorbidities.

There are currently active alerts or outbreaks in 365 schools across the province.
