Red Deer adds four more active COVID-19 cases

The record number of active COVID-19 cases in Red Deer continues to rise.

The city has 31 active cases of the virus as of Thursday, an increase of four from Wednesday’s total of 27.

Red Deer has now had 111 recoveries from COVID-19, an increase of one, as the total number of cases in the city now sits at 142.

Alberta recorded 244 new cases on Thursday, according to the province’s online update.

The total number of COVID-19 cases across the province stands at 21,443. There are 2,738 active cases, up 49 from Wednesday, and 18,417 recovered cases, up 194.

There are currently 101 Albertans in hospital, 16 in ICU. There have been 288 deaths, up one from Wednesday.

The province conducted 12,721 tests in the past 24 hours.

Red Deer County remains with five active cases, while Sylvan Lake continues to have two. The city of Lacombe held steady with 10 active cases, as did Lacombe County with seven.

Ponoka County now has 31 active cases, a decrease of one, and remains under a COVID-19 ‘watch.’

Mountain View County now has nine active cases, an increase of one, while the town of Olds added two more active cases for a total of four. The County of Stettler held steady with eight active cases of COVID-19.

The Central zone as a whole now has 116 active cases of COVID-19, up eight from Wednesday. Three people in the zone remain in hospital.

On Wednesday, a COVID-19 outbreak was declared for Hunting Hills High School after two more cases were reported in students at the school, bringing the total to three.
