Ponoka RCMP investigating random stabbing

RCMP in Ponoka continue to investigate a stabbing they believe to be random.

The incident occurred at just after midnight on August 5, police say. RCMP responded when EMS requested aid for a male who reported being stabbed while sitting outside.

The culprits were not known to the male victim.

At 12:21, Ponoka RCMP responded and spoke with the male victim who said he was just sitting on a park bench by the museum when three unknown males approached him.

He told police he’d been stabbed in the abdomen and punched several times. The male was taken to local hospital with a serious, but non life-threatening injury.

RCMP have involved the Forensic Identification Section, and the Ponoka General Investigation Section to provide assistance in the investigation.

The three male suspects are described as:

· First Nations in appearance

· Wearing dark sweatpants and hoodies

· One of the hoodies is a white & black checkered hoodie with front opening

· 19 to 20-years-old

“This type of random attack is rare in our community” says Sergeant Erin St-Cyr. “We’re committed to finding out who is responsible and determining the motivation behind what happened.”
