Alberta records 368 COVID-19 cases since Friday, 115 recoveries

Alberta’s COVID-19 numbers continue to surge.

The province is confirming 368 new cases over the past three days, including 165 new cases on Friday, July 17 which marks the highest single day increase in Alberta since May 1 when 218 new cases were confirmed.

Another 106 cases were confirmed on Saturday and an additional 97 on Sunday.

Active infections rose by 250 over the weekend to 1,109.

There are 86 people in hospital across the province because of the virus, including 17 in intensive care.

A total of 7,289 tests were completed on Friday, 5,046 Saturday and 5,221 Sunday. To date, the province has completed 590,502 COVID-19 tests.

The number of COVID-19 recoveries in the province rose by 115 over the weekend to 8,308.

Three more COVID-19 related deaths were reported to bring Alberta’s total to 170. One was a man in his 90s at a long-term care facility in Calgary. The others were a woman in her 90s and man in his 70s linked to an outbreak at the Misericordia hospital in Edmonton.

In the Central Zone, the number of active cases of the virus has risen to 131. There have been 98 recoveries in the zone while 28 people are in hospital, including five in intensive care.

The number of active cases in Red Deer has risen to 11 and the number of recoveries is listed at 38.
