Tourism Red Deer wants the city’s residents to become ambassadors of their own community.

The organization held its AGM this week, virtually, and the first under new Executive Director Rene Rondeau.

“While we are still reeling and dealing with the pandemic, we are looking forward to the future of Tourism Red Deer. We are looking at an inside out approach focusing on engaging our local members to become visitors here first. The goal is to turn our residents into ambassadors for their friends and relatives who eventually will come here to visit,” Rondeau encourages.

“Once it’s safe to do so we will focus our attention to our cross-province travellers and eventually welcoming back the international tourist.”

Meantime, Tourism Red Deer has devised a new strategic plan with three key elements as outlined in the Tourism Joint Venture it’s a part of with The City of Red Deer.

“With the Tourism Joint Venture and our Strategic Plan, we are going to move Tourism Red Deer into the future,” says Rondeau. “We will work to offer our members a much needed boost in marketing with a focus on showcasing the experiences our region has to offer. We will do this with content creation and even more visibility within our media channels. We are going to work very hard to take care of our members, partners and stakeholders. We are here for you the member, and you the visitor.”

Rondeau adds that Tourism Red Deer is able to engage the industry and help rebuild become of provincial and federal relief programs and grant opportunities.

“We are truly excited and thankful for the support we have had from Travel Alberta, the Province of Alberta and the Federal Government with the Covid-19 relief programs, and grant opportunities,” he continues. “We are set to receive $60 thousand dollars for operational relief, and that will help us move forward and allow us to focus on our members, their visitors and our amazing region.”

The plan also includes a new logo.
