Strawberry to stand trial for 2019 homicide

Jun 1, 2020 | 2:57 PM

Trial has been ordered for one of two people charged in a Red Deer homicide last year.

A preliminary hearing wrapped up in a Red Deer courtroom on Friday for Quentin Lee Strawberry. It was determined that there is enough evidence for the 38-year-old to stand trial on counts of second-degree murder and assault causing bodily harm in relation to the death of Joseph Gallant.

Shortly after midnight on March 29, 2019, RCMP and Red Deer Emergency Services attended a residence in the Grandview neighbourhood and found Gallant suffering from serious injuries. He died after being taken to hospital.

Jennifer Lee Caswell, 38, of Red Deer is also charged with second-degree murder and assault causing bodily harm in relation to Gallant’s death and is due back in court this Thursday. She and Strawberry are being tried separately.
