A curfew check at residence in Rocky Mountain House this week has led to the arrest of five people and the seizure of guns, cash and a substance believed to be cocaine.

It happened at 8:45 p.m. on Apr. 7, when RCMP set out to check on a male bound to his 50 Avenue residence by curfew conditions.

While at the residence, attending officers made observations that led to the arrests of five persons inside. A search warrant was granted, and in the early hours of April 8, the warrant was executed.

Police say two firearms were seized, one of which was said to be prohibited, as well as cash in excess of $14,000, along with a substance believed to be cocaine.

All five persons were charged for firearms related offences, possession of property obtained by crime, and possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking. Four of the five were charged with failing to comply with various court orders.

RCMP say judicial interim release hearings were held.

Shane Alexander Blair, 19, and Matthew Christopher Roy, 32, remain in custody.

Samuel Robert Beaver-Hawman, 20, Michaela Deann Thomson, 21, and Lansin Jim Goodrunning, 23, have been released for future court dates.

“Apart from the obvious issues with criminal activity, we want to remind Alberta citizens of their responsibilities under the Public Health Order that is in place,” says Staff Sergeant Carl Dinsdale, Detachment Commander of Rocky Mountain House, in a news release. “The responding members took this opportunity to provide education about everyone doing their part to keep other Albertans safe.”
