Red Deer Homeless Foundation Leadership Luncheon set for Oct. 2

The Red Deer Homeless Foundation, in partnership with Dress for Success Central Alberta and the Central Alberta Child Advocacy Centre, will host its Leadership Luncheon next month.

On Friday, Oct. 2, at Exhibition Hall in Westerner Park from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., those in attendance will hear from keynote speaker Joe Roberts, a bestselling author, internationally renowned speaker, and founder of the Push for Change movement.

Roberts, who once lived on the streets in Vancouver, will share his story about how one person and a community can change a life. He went from being homeless to a successful entrepreneur.

The Red Deer Homeless Foundation says Roberts’ story is a reflection of the organization’s belief that homelessness is not someone’s identity and that lasting change is possible when people are met with support, dignity and opportunity.

“The most powerful words I have heard from people experiencing homelessness are also the simplest: ‘We’re people too.’ Our Leadership Luncheon is about changing the conversation, seeing the person before the circumstance, and focusing our community on help, hope and what is possible,” said Darcy Mykytyshyn, Red Deer Homeless Foundation, in a media release.

In addition, there will be a special community announcement at the Luncheon from the Red Deer Homeless Foundation, Dress for Success Central Alberta, and the Central Alberta Child Advocacy Centre.

Organizers say, while the details will remain private for now, the announcement will allow local leaders, businesses and community members to become part of something bigger.

“At Dress for Success Central Alberta, we see every day how confidence, opportunity and community support can transform lives,” said Erin Forbes, Executive Director, Dress for Success Central Alberta. “When organizations come together around a shared purpose, we can create pathways for individuals and families to thrive. The Leadership Luncheon is an opportunity to strengthen those connections and inspire meaningful action that benefits our entire community.”
