Wolf Creek Public Schools reviewing ward boundaries

Mar 3, 2020 | 4:13 PM

Wolf Creek Public Schools is hosting a pair of public meetings as it moves ahead with a review of its ward boundaries.

The review is being done as the division seeks equitable trustee representation throughout Wolf Creek Public Schools.

The two public meetings are scheduled for March 10 at Ponoka Secondary Campus and March 11 at Lacombe Composite High School, both starting at 6:30 p.m.

Superintendent Jayson Lovell says the board began looking at realignment about a year ago due to growing and declining populations in certain areas.

“When we look at our rural wards, like Ward 1 on the east side – Alix, Tees, Clive and Mecca Glen – typically we haven’t seen a lot of growth in those communities, whereas in Ward 5 – Lacombe and Blackfalds – we’ve seen tremendous growth. It’ll be interesting what the review tells us about the changing demographics.”

The boundary review is scheduled to be complete this fall with a plan to be submitted to the province by the end of the year.
