A lengthy preliminary hearing could be in store for a Sylvan Lake man accused of killing his wife last summer.

In Red Deer provincial court on Wednesday, Judge D.J. Plosz learned that five weeks may be needed for a preliminary hearing for 41-year-old Satnam Singh Sandhu.

Appearing through CCTV from the Red Deer Remand Centre and with a Punjabi interpreter in the courtroom, Sandhu is charged with second-degree murder in the death of 36-year-old Kulvinder Sandhu.

Kulvinder Sandhu died in hospital from injuries suffered during an incident at a Sylvan Lake residence on Sept. 11, 2019.

A preliminary hearing would determine if Sandhu’s case has enough evidence to go to trial.

However, with Sandhu’s defense council still waiting to receive some disclosure from the Crown, a date for a pre-trial conference is now hoped to be set when his case returns to court Feb. 5.
