Bashaw RCMP have arrested and charged the man who is alleged to have robbed the ATB Financial branch in Alix and then fled via snowmobile on Dec. 20.

Police say it was Dec. 23 when a male in custody at Ponoka detachment on an unrelated matter was identified as the suspect in the armed robbery from three days prior.

Late on Dec. 24 and into Dec. 25, members from Bashaw, Ponoka and Maskwacis executed an overnight search warrant at the man’s rural property east of Ponoka. There they found evidence linking the suspect to the armed robbery.

Michael Allan Richter, 40, of Ponoka, is charged with 10 counts in relation to the armed robbery; including robbery with a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose (x2), possession of a firearm while prohibited, and fail to comply with a probation order (x2).
