Drayton Valley court appearance moved

Representatives from the Town of Drayton Valley were in the Town’s courthouse on November 5 as part of legal proceedings in relation to a fatal Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) incident that took place on August 3, 2017.

This was the Town’s third Court appearance in relation to the incident, and each time the appearance has resulted in a rescheduling date being set.

The Town of Drayton Valley said in a statement that in an effort to bring the case “to an appropriate and timely conclusion”, both parties have agreed to move the next court appearance to Edmonton for November 7. The move will allow the case to proceed quicker due to more availability of justice personnel to handle each case. The Town says it is important to them that the case is resolved in a timely manner.

In Edmonton court, the Town will request a date for Summons Disposition in which the Town will provide an answer to the Summons.

In response to the incident, the Town said in their statement that it “recognizes and acknowledges the poor safety performances of the past and has worked diligently to create a compliant health and safety culture that enhances worker safety.”
